Stuff:
I pulled the trigger last week, and ordered two hives of bees from Mann Lake Ltd. We will soon be in the bee business!
A few weeks ago, I took the pair of classes offered at the Bee Lab at the University of Minnesota. Talk about brain overload! There is a lot to know about keeping bees. I took the Beekeeping in Northern Climates Part 1 (Getting Started in Beekeeping), and the Beekeeping in Northern Climates Part 2 (Keeping Bees Year After Year). I don't think there is a better class offered!
Equipment is coming from my Uncle John, who tried bees for a few years at the cabin. The trouble is that you don't get to check regularly on the bees if you are not at the cabin every week. This should be fun, because he has two complete suits, so I can bring guests!
We will be keeping the bees on Steve Preus' flat topped roof here in the city. I just hope the bees find enough food, and survive up there.
Honey for sale! (well not yet)
